Specific expertise includes: High-Availability Clusters and Load Balancing HA Clusters (aka Failover Clusters) are used primarily to improve the availability of services by reducing the SPOF (Single Point of Failure) and manual intervention requirements by using redundancy and special clustering mechanisms at the hardware and/or software levels.
Load Balancing is used to split the load among a set of nodes using hardware or software load balancers. Normally, both HA clustering and the load balancing are implemented together to increase the availability while enabling the applications to take on high load volumes in a concurrent model.
The mechanisms used to implement HA clusters or load balancing vary depending on the technologies used in the respective tier to be clustered.
